July 12 | DANCE with Rebecca Gentry

Dance

Rebecca Gentry

Get ready to shake it! Latin Ballroom Dance fuses folk dances from South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. It consists of “traditional” competitive dances such as Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha, Paso Doble and Jive, as well as “social” dances like the Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue. In this class, we'll experiment with a few different rhythms and styles of dance. Though typically performed with a partner, you won't need one for this fun introduction!

About Rebecca

Rebecca Gentry - teacher, mentor, and general encourager - is a professionally trained ballet and ballroom dancer, though she dabbles in a variety of dance styles, from Bachata to Bollywood, Tap to Tango. She began teaching ballroom nearly 20 years ago, has been on staff at both the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios, and is the current owner of City Ballroom Ballroom Dance Studio in downtown Lancaster. She competes nationally in Professional American Style Smooth and is a finalist in both the Rising Star and Open Professional categories. Her newest passion project is The Dance Collective, Lancaster's first and only Ballroom and Latin competition team for youth.

In addition to teaching ballroom dance, she guest-teaches Ballet, Pointe, Tap, and Jazz in studios across Lancaster County and in Philadelphia. She has performed locally with the Grant Street Dance Company and PRiMA Theatre, has choreographed for PRiMA, as well as Encore! Home School Productions, the Lancaster Academy for the Performing Arts, the People’s Shakespeare Project, and the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center. She is resident choreographer in the Manheim Central High School theatre department and for an annual, Lancaster-based production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Rebecca has one goal: provide a warm and fun atmosphere for learning, quality instruction, and a place to discover the joy of dance. Creative in her presentation and full of life and energy, she has been known to lie on the floor in celebration of her students’ accomplishments!
