Adapted from the celebrated Broadway musical, this rousing Calypso-flavored tale follows one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice.

With its poignant story and catchy Caribbean-flavored score, Once on This Island JR. is a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical by the legendary writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty.

Schedule

Camp runs from 9am-5pm each day. The performance for family and friends will be at 2pm on Saturday afternoon at Lancaster County Christian School. The final three days of camp feature masterclasses in the morning and touring performances for local retirement communities in the afternoon. Transportation to and from touring performance venues is provided.

Costs

  • $225 - includes all activities & materials

  • EARLY BIRD - $200 (before January 31, 2019)

  • LATE REGISTRATION - $250 (after April 30, 2019)

Youth Theatre Summer Camp costs include:

  • camp t-shirt

  • transportation to and from all touring performance venues

  • all materials and handouts

  • daily rehearsals with the Servant Stage staff

  • workshops and masterclasses with other theatre professionals

Students will need to bring their own lunch, snacks, and water bottles.


Meet The Directors

LAUREN GROFF (Director) is passionate about youth growing in the skills and joys of theater and is thrilled to bring Once on This Island JR to life onstage after staffing Godspell JR last year! She graduated from Liberty University with a BS Interdisciplinary degree that merged together Theater, Ministry, and Psychology. The years since has kept Lauren busy whether teaching acting and voice (Creative Pursuits Studio, Lancaster Academy for the Performing Arts, Cavod Academy), staffing summer camps (LAPA, Cavod Academy, Servant Stage Company), or directing shows (LAPA, Veritas Academy, Locust Grove). Lauren has performed at local theaters such as Servant Stage Company, Cavod Theatre, Reji Woods Productions, Piercing Word, Steitz City Players, Popovsky Performing Arts, and Fulton Theatre. She has been blessed to work at North Star Initiative and recently joined the SSC team as their Touring Manager. See you at camp!

BRANDON CAMERON (Assistant Director) is excited to be joining Servant Stage Company again this summer for their camp program. While he is from Southern NJ, Brandon has been performing professionally in the Lancaster area for the last ten years. He has been blessed to perform with Servant Stage Company, American Music Theatre, PRiMA Theatre, Sight & Sound Theatres and Piercing Word. He has enjoyed being a part of many of the Servant Stage productions, as well as the Godspell JR. summer camp last year as a counselor. Brandon is currently pursuing his BFA in Musical Theatre at Shenandoah University. He is looking forward to being a faculty member for this years summer camp and sharing the mission and vision of Servant Stage.

WALLY CALDERON (Servant Stage Artistic Director) Originally from Green Bay, WI, Wally earned his BFA in Music Theatre Performance and Direction from Ohio Northern University. For over 15 years, Wally traveled the country as a freelance performer, director, and choreographer. Notable stays include the Miracle Theatre in Pigeon Forge, TN, The Palace Theatre in Manchester, NH, Hershey Park, and the highly credited Stagedoor Manor in upstate New York. For the last 5 years, Wally has worked at Sight & Sound Theatres in multiple positions. “Special thanks to my wonderful wife Andrea, sweetest daughter Joyanna, and our newest addition, Juliet. “All the glory to God for the amazing gifts and opportunities He has given me!” Psalms 149:3
