Hadestown: Teen Edition

Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown, modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences.

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Program & Production Information

  • These shows are full-length musicals adapted for teens (ages 13-19). These productions are for experienced students who are ready to engage with material that is lengthier and more complex. Unlike our JR and KIDS productions, where registration takes place before auditions, these productions will be cast fully by auditions, with auditions taking place well in advance of the rehearsal process. Upon receiving casting offers, students will register with tuition following our tiered pricing model. The cast size is slightly smaller than our JR and KIDS cast sizes, allowing for more focused intentional work with the students, a more efficient rehearsal process, and more opportunities for students to take on understudy and swing responsibilities. Similarly to our JR productions this will be a more realised production with a small set, curated props, costumes, and lights to visually support the work of the students.

    • Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell's Hadestown, modified for performances by teen actors for family audiences. The Teen Edition removes staging and language related to substance abuse and sexual references.

    • Use of the word ‘hell’ in reference to the Greek mythological underworld.

    • Mild references to alcohol and implications of a coercive relationship.
